Drop Dead Gorgeous Storyline

In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pageant is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won't be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.

Drop Dead Gorgeous goofs

CHAR: When at the home of Becky Leeman, her father Lester is showing the film crew his wine holding globe when he states that a tape deck comes out of Afghanistan while he is pointing below the equator. Afghanistan is found far above the equator.
FAKE: The explosion seen on the video camera is seen directly in front of the camera, yet the large piece of debris that falls center screen comes at a diagonal angle from the right.
CONT: In the beginning of the pageant you can see Lisa Swenson wearing a hat with "Lady Liberty", but when Amber Atkins starts talking to the crowd, you can see Lisa in the background wearing no hat anymore.
CONT: Before performing the physical fitness routine, the girls say their step ladders are still wet with paint, but when the Vaseline is brought around to them, their hands are clean. Later, when they are on the stage, their hands are covered in paint.
CONT: At the end of Amber's tap act, she pulls off her hat to show hair that had been smashed under the hat falling around her face. When we see her again, her hair is neat and tidy, in loose curls.

The mall parking lot Gladys' pulls into to pick up the dresses is Eden Prairie Center in Eden Prairie (not the Mall of America), the same mall that was used in _Mallrats (1995)_ (qv)
The giant cow statue is located at a creamery in Bongards, Minnesota.
Screenwriter 'Lona Williams' (qv) was herself a contestant in local beauty pageants. She appears in the film as the pageant's third, non-speaking judge, Jean.
Film Debut of 'Amy Adams (III)' (qv).
The original title was "Dairy Queens", but it had to be changed after the corporation that owns the Dairy Queen ice cream chain filed a lawsuit.
