Sleeping Beauty Storyline

Adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name. Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil witch Maleficent - who declares that before Aurora reaches her 16th birthday she will die by a poisoned spinning-wheel. To try to prevent this, the king places her into hiding, in the care of three goodnatured - but not too bright - fairies.

[Maleficent discovers the Prince has cut his way through the forest of thorns surrounding King Stefan's castle]
Maleficent: No! It cannot be! [transforms herself into a whirlwind & lands in front of Phillip, blocking his path]
Maleficent: Now, shall you deal with ME, O Prince - and all the powers of HELL! AHAHAHAHAHA, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[Maleficent raises her sceptre and turns herself into a massive dragon that looms up in front of Prince Phillip]

Sleeping Beauty trivia

The musical score throughout the film was recorded by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
The Disneyland castle was named for this film, even though the park opened four years prior to the film's release.
This was the last Disney feature to have cels inked by hand. From _One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)_ (qv) on, the cleaned-up pencil drawings were Xeroxed onto the cels. However, some of the scenes in this movie did use the Xerox process
Princess Aurora's long, thin, willowy body shape was inspired by that of 'Audrey Hepburn' (qv).
The little-known second half of the original Sleeping Beauty fable involves the Prince's attempts to protect Sleeping Beauty and their children from his mother who is an ogress. In the end, of course, she is thwarted and jumps into a pot of live serpents to avoid being killed by her own son.
